Hoth, the iconic snow planet from The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi’s Endor, have been confirmed as returning battlegrounds in EA and DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront.

During EA’s press conference, DICE showcased a bit of what to expect from the Frostbite Engine 3-powered multiplayer shooter, as well as how the team achieved a high level of quality and authenticity.

"We're going to treat this with respect," EA COO Peter Moore told IGN, "particularly because people have a very clear idea of what a Battlefront game should be."

DICE visited the LucasFilm Archives at Skywalker Ranch “to capture the actual models and props used in the movies,” a developer explained in a video. The team also went to some original filming locations, “not just to capture the environments, but the emotions they invoke as well. The early results are truly spectacular.”

Rebel Alliance snowspeeders, Imperial AT-STs, speeder bikes, and the expected Stormtrooper/Rebel Alliance soldier can be seen in the early in-game footage.

DICE could certainly include Clone War-era settings and soldiers for Star Wars Battlefront, of course. Previous titles included a mixture of all six Star Wars films’ characters and planets, and with Star Wars Episode VII releasing in 2015, there’s an opportunity for new people and places as well.

Battlefront is one of many Star Wars games EA plans to make over the next decade. Visceral's unannounced Star Wars title is likely to follow, with ex-Naughty Dog director Amy Hennig writing and overseeing production.

Star Wars Battlefront has no release date. "These games are so big and you’ve got to get the game right," Moore said of EA's E3 press conference lineup. "We’re often criticized for release dates and getting ahead of it too early. I never believed in nailing a date and then reverse engineering the title backwards from the date, it just doesn’t work. When we’re comfortable, we’ll announce a release date."
