"There is no such plan," Okunari posted when asked about the possibility of games from Sega's library being sold on the Wii U.

Age-old games including Sonic The Hedgehog, Golden Axe and Altered Beast were released through the original Wii's Virtual Console, and are playable on Wii U via its emulation software.

They can be accessed by selecting the Wii Menu on the system's start screen, but features including Miiverse and off-TV play are absent for non-native software.

Support for the Wii U GamePad is also omitted, meaning that a Wii Remote or Classic controller must be used for emulated Wii titles.

Sega has heavily supported Nintendo platforms with its contemporary releases, with recent exclusives including Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Sonic Lost World.
