PostSubject: Borderlands 2 is now the best-selling game in 2K's history   Wed Apr 09, 2014 2:40 pm

Last year, 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive announced that Borderlands 2 had shipped 7.5 million copies and was on pace to become 2K's best-selling game ever. Now, that milestone has finally been reached.

The 2012 shoot-and-loot action game is now the highest-selling game in the history of 2K Games, the company announced today, though it's not clear what title Gearbox Software's game took down to claim the throne. 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann announced the news today in a news release for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. He described the Borderlands series as one of 2K's "premiere" franchises.

2K Games did not reveal a specific sales figure for Borderlands 2. However, Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford said recently that sales of the game are greater than the number of Xbox Ones (3 million) and PlayStation 4s (6 million) sold to date, which would put the game's sales at around 9 million or more.

Other breadwinner 2K Games properties include BioShock, Mafia, NBA 2K, and Civilization. The Grand Theft Auto series, meanwhile, is published by Rockstar Games, not 2K Games. Grand Theft Auto V alone has shipped 32.5 million copies to date.

PostSubject: Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (AKA Borderlands 1.5)   Wed Apr 09, 2014 4:45 pm

Source: IGN (Author: Vince Ingenito)

On a list of potential ideas that could make Borderlands feel fresh again after two years of non-stop shooting and looting, “Take it to the Moon” certainly would’ve been high on my list, right up there with adding new character classes. Happily, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is coming this fall, and it checks off both of those boxes and a few more to boot.

Any thoughts of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel merely being a glorified bit of standalone DLC melted away within the first few seconds of my demo, when I saw one player moon-jump clear over an enemy, freezing them solid with one of the new cryo weapons as he slowly floated by. Is this more of the Borderlands you love? Sure, but it’s also the Borderlands you never knew you wanted.

See, being on the moon is more than just a gimmicky change of scenery. For one, it sets the stage for the story, which takes place between Borderlands 1 and 2. Handsome Jack has crashed the Hyperion space station into the moon, and as one of his employees, you’re helping him un-crash it. That’s right, you work for Borderlands 2’s big bad, and you’ll be watching his journey from a benevolent leader to the nasty, Butt Stallion-riding creep you know and love. You may recall Jack claiming himself, not you, to be the true hero of this story near the beginning of BL2, and in The Pre-Sequel, we’re going to find out why.

2K Australia has also taken the change in setting as a good excuse to add some new mechanics to the mix. O2 is an entirely new resource to manage, but rather than make it an ever-depleting meter that limits how long you can be out in space, it powers a handful of new mobility options that rewrite the rules of engagement for firefights. Double jumps, air boosts, and meteoric ground pounds are all at your disposal, giving enemy encounters an entirely different, more vertical flow.

Supporting this new resource is a new gear slot, the O2 or “Oz” pack, each of which comes with different O2 capacities and can add special effects to your ground pound, much in the way grenade mods work. One added an elemental effect, while another temporarily created a bubble of atmosphere for players to refill their O2 packs with. The new gearing opportunities don’t stop there either. On top of the new cryo element that lets you freeze fools solid, lasers are now their own discreet weapon type. Sure, there have been a select number of energy weapons before, but from Ghostbuster-esque proton throwers to more “pew pew” style repeaters, the variety promises to be much greater.

Of course, new weapons can only shake things up so far, but put them in the hands of a fresh batch of characters and suddenly you have a lot of new juice to sip. And don’t expect renamed versions of existing classes, but rather four all-new classes with full, distinct skill trees. The one I saw the most of was Athena, who you might remember from the Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for Borderlands 1. Her action skill utilizes a shimmering, hand-held energy shield called the Kinetic Aspis, which absorbs incoming fire and then deals double the damage absorbed when she tosses it Captain America-style. Skills in her defense-oriented branch allowed her to provide healing and damage reduction for nearby allies, and even gave her the ability to taunt surrounding mobs, keeping her friends out of enemy crosshairs for a bit. Another skill allowed her aspis to pinball from one enemy to the next before zipping back to her.

Little is known about the skill-sets of the remaining three characters so far. Not everyone will remember Wilhelm, or Nisha the Lawbringer, but something tells me more than few players will pick Claptrap as their go-to. You read right – the fan-favorite, one-wheeled robot makes his playable debut, and one can only guess at what he’ll be capable of. Paired with a campaign that’s bigger than Borderlands 1, The Pre-Sequel isn’t a simple spin-off, but a full-featured – albeit last-gen-only – new Borderlands game to get addicted to all over again.

PostSubject: Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel launches Oct. 14 in North America   Thu Jun 05, 2014 8:29 am

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is scheduled to launch on Oct. 14 in North America, with an international release slated for Oct. 17, Gearbox Software announced.

Those who pre-order the new release will be able to access bonus content Shock Drop Slaughter Pit. This will take place in an old Dahl facility on Pandora's moon where players will meet a former military recruiter TR4-NU who has since gone insnae. Players will get loot for succeeding against enemies in the Slaughter Pit.

The Pre-Sequel was announced earlier this year, in development by 2K Australia. Its reveal followed confirmation from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford that the studio was not working on Borderlands 3.

PostSubject: Gearbox President "Scared" By the Idea of Borderlands 3    Thu Jul 10, 2014 5:33 pm

Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford is uneasy about the very idea of Borderlands 3, he told Game Informer in a new interview. That's because a third entry in the numbered series--which is absolutely not announced or even in development--would need to be "so crazy and so big" that the developer might not be able to launch a game worthy of its ambition.

"There's a point where it's like, 'What should the next Borderlands be? Should there be another Borderlands, and what should it be?'," Pitchford said in August's issue of Game Informer (via Videogamer). "We had that discussion and there was this weird mixed bag. On one level it's like, 'Woah'. If you're going to do something that's called Borderlands 3 and it's going to be done in this next-generation environment, there's a whole bunch of ideas that come around of what has to happen in order for that to live up to what that needs to be."

This fall's Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel--developed principally by 2K Australia--really upped the ante for what a potential third Borderlands game from Gearbox needs to be, he said. Pitchford explained that 2K Australia's involvement with the game, "changed the nature of the pressure of what Borderlands 3 had to be for us."

"If there's going to be a Borderlands 3 and what that would be. We imagine what that might be, and frankly it scared us," he added. "It's like, 'That's so crazy and so big that I'm not sure we can succeed'."

Despite Pitchford's Hideo Kojima-like pessimism, it's still possible that a new Borderlands game from Gearbox could be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 generation of consoles. Game Informer writes that while Gearbox has not ruled out such a game, the studio's current main focus is on multiplayer arena shooter Battleborn for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Also in this month's issue of Game Informer, it was revealed that characters from the Borderlands series might end up appearing in Battleborn.

"I won't say that we haven't talked about [including vault hunters]," creative director Randy Varnell said. "But it's really important that Battleborn is its own universe first and that it has its own tone and its own style and that it can grow its legs. But it is a universe. It's a vast universe with who knows what. It's set way, way in the future and so I can't say that [vault hunter characters] would never happen..."

PostSubject: Borderlands 3 Announcement Teased At PAX South   Sat Jan 24, 2015 10:19 am

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/01/24/pax-south-2015-randy-pitchford-teases-borderlands-3-announcement

Quote :

Gearbox is going to have something to say about the next full title in the Borderlands franchise at their Borderlands panel this Sunday at PAX South.

This comes straight from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who teased the announcement when answering a fan's question during Gearbox's Q&A panel earlier today. No details were given, and he didn't even confirm the game as being called "Borderlands 3," so we still don't know where or when in the Borderlands timeline it takes place, but perhaps we'll get some more clues this weekend.

I don't know what you mean by power. Do you mean ability like Zero going invisible? Or do you mean power from the guns like fire?

He was talking about the character's main ability.

My favorite game is Borderlands 2. I didn't get to play much of The Pre-Sequel. I did like several of the abilities though.

I also like Tales of The Borderlands a lot.

My favorite character is Fiona Thirsty Mofos

Claptrap's VaultHunter.EXE is my favorite ability suspicious

I'd have to say Tales of the Borderlands, because that shit made me happy.
Handsome Jack is my favourite character, because of his tragic tale of everyone betraying him.

Phase Walk, because I usually tell whoever I'm playing the first game that I'm faster than they are.
